Betegnelsen hamløper er særlig kjent fra norrøn tid, og forestillinga om hamen er kjent fra norrøn mytologi, sagn og eventyr. Enkelte menn kunne ta dyreham og ble da mannbjørn, varulv eller valravn, eller en kvinne kunne bli mare og annet.
Hamløper is an old norse term for a person able to put on an animal skin and become this animal.
In some cases it might be comparison with a "regular" shapeshifter or werewolves, in other cases it's closer resembling to skin-walkers.
In the case of Matt here, he is able to put on an magical wolf pelt and gain the form and body of his wolf.
He do not become a real wolf, and probably behaves more like a dog than a wolf.
He has magical abilities, but they are limited to him being able to create a magical pelt for him to use for shifting.
He is otherwise unable to heal, has no enhanced senses and is for all intend and purposes a regular human being.
